The Forgotten International - Donations
In addition to making small grants to our grassroots projects around the world and sending Fellows to work directly with organizations abroad, TFI has a program whereby we collect and send needed goods and supplies to communities who could benefit from these basic necessities. In doing so, TFI picks up costs related to the delivery of these items to our sites abroad. We didn’t quite know what we were getting into on our first outing, and it was a learning experience for us, but the smiles on the faces of the people who received these items made it worthwhile for us to make this type of giving part of our overall work.
We truly could not do this work without the help of our Partners and we are humbled by their support. We encourage you to learn more about their good work. They generously donate much of the supplies that are delivered to the schools, medical clinics and orphanages that TFI supports. We also have donors who give specifically for these deliveries, and as a result we are able to purchase additional supplies that are needed with their funds.
We thank our friends for their support and we welcome new partners and donors who would like to work with us locally and abroad to serve more women, children and families in need of basic goods. Our goal is to deliver needed supplies at least once a year to communities struggling to get by. Please contact us if you can help.
Donations We've Made Abroad
Lima, PeruWinter 2012
In 2011, when TFI started working with Comunidad de Ninos Sagrada Famila, an organization in Lima, Peru, we have supported through small grants and our Fellowship Program, it came to our attention that their onsite medical clinic needed supplies. We searched for Partners who could help us get needed goods to this community. We are fortunate to have found VIDA USA which ships medical supplies to organizations in need all over Central and South America. They donated thousands of dollars of medical supplies and delivered these goods to Sagrada Familia in August 2012, with the help of VIDA Peru, their local affiliate. We must also thank Peace Builders, Inc. for donating clothing and shoes, One World Futbol for donating their unique, indestructible soccer balls and Mr. Steve Preminger whose donation was able to purchase diapers and school supplies for the over 800 young people who live and go to school at Sagrada Familia. We are grateful to all those who were involved in making this happen.
Our first venture was in the summer of 2009 when TFI, working with Peace Builders, Inc., sent a 40-foot cargo container with clothing, shoes, toys, athletic equipment and medical supplies to India to be distributed to the many Indian and Tibetan schools and a charitable hospital TFI supports there. Peace Builders, our Partner in this venture, works with several U.S. companies and organizations that donate goods for nonprofit causes and has delivered over $65 million worth of goods all over the world. We admire their work and are grateful for this collaboration. The shipment of over 250,000 items was loaded at Woodside Elementary School with the help of the students there. It was a memorable day for all of us. We must also thank Hekani Jakhalu and David Ngone from YouthNet in India for helping us with the distribution of these goods throughout India from New Delhi to Dharamsala to Odisha to Nagaland. We certainly could not have done any of this without help from our good friends.
