Since 2004, the Tong-Len Charitable Trust has provided much-needed community services to the 300 families of the Charan Khad slum in northern India. They have set up a nursery school which provides children with nutritious meals, created a mobile health unit and solar-powered showers, and provided public health education to families. Sadly, in the summer of 2016, the local government bulldozed the slum and evicted the entire community without plans for their relocation. Tong-Len has continued its work and still provides dormitory housing and educational sponsorship for the students attending the local schools. However, there is concern over how to help the parents and young children of this community. We await updates as to their next steps.
