St. Vincent’s Children of Kibera tries to help the most vulnerable children in this sprawling Nairobi slum. They provide a nursery school with nutritious meals so the children do not have to worry about hunger, and will have gain all the basic skills they need to start primary school. They operate a Rescue Center which takes in orphaned or abandoned children, many of whom have suffered traumatic experiences. They are given support through counseling and the loving environment at St. Vincent’s. Their Women’s Community Support program partners with local women to create opportunities for single mothers to start businesses and provide for their children. The holistic care offered to women and children through St. Vincent’s makes their services vital, and their work allows families to rise out of the poverty that has defined Kibera for many years.
St. Vincent’s has been one of the agencies for fellowship placement. Former fellows have developed youth activities, created high-level promotional materials, and improved workflows.
