Artwork by Elvis Malogo
For those who may wish to add to or start your art collection, consider bidding on this portrait created by Elvis Malogo. Elvis has been one of TFI’s sponsored students through our Eric L. Brandenburg Children’s Fund since he was eight years old. He is a self-taught Nigerian artist who specializes in hyper-realistic drawings, most often using charcoal on paper to resemble photographs. We found Elvis when he was abandoned at a middle school in Ghana, and TFI decided then to sponsor his education since he was no longer being supported by his family. It was later that we later learned of his
talent. His goal is for his art to be a source of hope and inspiration. The particular artwork that is up for auction is a composition made from various pieces of fabric that have been cut and placed together to create this unique figure. Elvis is a young man with a great future ahead of him. Maybe his work will be worth millions some day! Check out more of Elvis’s work via his Instagram account, linked here.
A Chess Set
This chess set was designed in Italy, but it was modeled after those found in India, where most agree to be the birth-place of chess some two thousand years ago. Today, it is thought of as one of the most difficult games in the world to master, with millions of possible moves, and strategy that can test one’s ability to predict moves and countermoves eight to ten moves in advance. Chess is played all over the world, with children as young as two or three starting to play. The set itself is wood with weighted silver head pieces and bases. Made some time ago in the 1900s, it is a truly unique piece with a leather
board and carrying case. This would be a beautiful piece to display in your home, and it is a great way to socialize face-to-face with friends and family at a time when so much of our face-time is spent looking at our phones.

Our Social Justice Book Trio
Your first book is Living on a Dollar a Day: The Lives and Faces of the World’s Poor by Thomas Nazario. In it, he shares the personal stories of the world’s poor, honoring their lives, their struggles, and encouraging action in those who can help. This copy is autographed by its author, and it is certainly an important and powerful read for anyone who wishes to help alleviate the amount of suffering that exists in the world today. The second book is entitled The Dalai Lama Leadership and the Power of Compassion, written by Ginger Chih. The book tells the story of the Dalai Lama’s global leadership while communicating the condition of the Tibetan diaspora. It is an
insightful look into leadership informed by compassion and selflessness, reminding us of our shared humanity and responsibility to one another. The third book you have here is Speak Truth to Power, Human Rights Defenders who are Changing our World by Kerry Kennedy Cuomo. The book presents an array of interviews accompanied by a series of portraits of heroes from more than thirty-five countries across the globe. The courageous men and women featured in this book speak to the causes to which they have dedicated their lives, including women’s rights, religious freedoms, rule of law, and environmental defense.
